Silly Sally's Stories: Sawyer is 3!

I can hardly believe it, but Sawyer turned three on July 23. A lot of favorite moments in our family have taken place in the past three years, including some new ones this weekend.

Susan and I flew to Denver on Thursday night and played hooky with Sawyer on Friday, when we treated him to "Sawyer's Birthday Adventures!"

We started the day at Einstein's Bagel, where the stinker managed to pack away an entire bagel, though much of it ended up on his face!

From there, we drove him to his "Special Surprise" at the Marriott Denver Tech Center. We tried to get him to guess where he was going and then started telling him we were going to go look at flowers and ribbons and everything pretty.

Oh boy! We were met with adamant refusals to see flowers -- "flowers are BORING!" -- or anything "pretty" -- "I don't like pretty things!".

He was enormously relieved when we walked into the hotel and he saw huge displays of model trains. The Lionel Train Collectors Convention was in Denver and the collectors set up dozens of tracks, trains and cities for the amusement of children.

Sawyer was totally enthralled watching the trains go through model mountains and cities, but not quite as enthralled as he was with the ability to play with his own train!

After the train exposition, we stopped for a quick lunch at Lark Burger where we engaged in a staring contest with Susan and disolved into a giggling contest, and then we went home for a brief nap time. Whew! The exhaustion!

After he woke up, we headed to "Special Suprise #2" - the movie Toy Story 3. He loved it, and it was so much fun for Susie and I to watch him watch the movie and laugh at all the right lines.

He was so inspired by the movie and superheroes that afterward he ran around the theater grounds showing Susan and I what Batman looks like when he's angry...

The next morning, Allen, Susan, Sawyer and I went back to Einstein's for another bagel breakfast. On our way home, Allen was asking all about working for Hilton Hotels and which communities are the best in which to live in Virginia. I told him that if he wanted land, he needed to live out in Leesburg. Allen immediately quoted Tom Cruise in Far and Away and repeated, in his best Irish accent, "Lahnd Shahnnon."

Five minutes later, after we had all moved on in the conversation, we hear from the back seat, "Lahnd Shahnnon." Hilarious! We all burst out laughing and Sawyer was so embarrassed, but he pulled it off in his best Irish accent!

By the time we got home, Mom had arrived and we all headed over to his birthday pool party with 12 of his pre-school friends. It was so cute watching him play with his friends, ride down the water slide with Allen and enjoy his birthday party.

Following a quick nap back at home, we watched him enjoy his birthday bounty! Holy cow, the kid raked it in! He received 10 pairs of Superhero "unders"...
