The best airport sign in the whole of the world!
The girls and I returned to the Garden Island for a week's vacation, and we loved every single minute, starting from when we took the shuttle bus to Hertz and decided to rent a four-door Jeep. Good times await! Once we figured out how to remove the roof and door panels!
One of our first stops was at the local farmers' market. We loved seeing the different variety of flowers, tasting different kinds of fruit and watching the vendors make coconut drinks and provide frozen bananas....a favorite treat for Amber and Chappy.
Our home away from home...we stayed the whole week at the Kauai Grand Hyatt. Talk about living in the lap of luxury!! This was our view from our room. Ahhhhhh.....

The hotel also offers twice-weekly luau shows. It's awesome to watch the fire dancers.
We celebrated Amber's 43rd birthday while we were on Kauai. Gotta love her birthday hair do, courtesy of the Jeep!
One day, we drove up to the North Shore and Hanalei to hike to Hanakapia Beach, which is a secluded beach along the Napoli coast that is only accessible via a 4-mile hike. It's a bit of a challenging hike at times, but on the whole it's a great day hike.
The hike offers spectacular views of the beach.
After the hike, Chappy stripped down to her suit and showered in an outdoor shower before walking down the street to our Jeep. We all had the biggest giggles over Chappy walking down the street in nothing but her swimsuit and sneakers. Quite the picture of fashion!
On our way back to Poipu, we stopped by the lighthouse for a bite to eat and to browse in a couple of small shops. Kauai has loads of wild roosters that roam the grounds and we spotted a few of them in the shopping area. I loved watching JJ try to get "just the right shot" of the roosters! She literally circled the tree chasing the roosters...hilarious!

Another favorite stop: JoJos Shaved Ice. Delish!
A group effort to catch a gecko! Lots of squeals and jumping on beds to avoid something that's 3-inches long! Thank goodness Chappy isn't afraid of insects!
The hazard of driving a Jeep...island rains that strikes at a moment's notice. Fortunately, our hair is aways pulled back into pony tails!
Some of our favorite eats: First up, Da Crack. I mean, how can you not love a "restaurant" that's called Da Crack and that's literally a crack in the wall. Here's the catch....it's delicious Mexican food made with organic products. It's yummy!
Garlic shrimp is also a favorite island treat.
And of course, hula pie. No trip to Kauai is complete without hula pie.

Our final night on the island included our favorite location: Sunset at PoliHale Beach.
